COLD OPEN

1. INT. CHONKSY'S APARTMENT · PREP MONTAGE · A/B

  • A heist-prep montage in parody form.
  • Seaver builds gadgets over comms: a rope braided from kelp ("structurally questionable, emotionally strong").
  • Chumpy packs snacks for a forty-minute job: four bags.
  • Chonksy puts on his old Academy fedora. It pops off. He tapes it on.
  • Button: Chumpy: "What's the plan?" Chonksy: "Go in. Don't touch anything that isn't a tape. Come out." Chumpy: "Love a three-step plan." Chonksy: "That's the whole plan." Chumpy: "I said I love it."

2. INT. VAULT HATCH · A/B

  • Chumpy gets stuck in the hatch. Chonksy pushes from below.
  • Chumpy: "I should get in shape." Chonksy: "Now? NOW you should?" Chumpy: "It's a journey."
  • They pop through and drop into darkness on the kelp rope, which holds. Seaver, over comms, sounding surprised: "Huh."

ACT ONE

3. INT. VAULT · THE BAIT SHELF · A/B

  • Rows of glowing chew-wood on velvet: aged cedar, birch and "the good sticks," each under its own little spotlight.
  • Chonksy: "Who's this for?" Chumpy, reverent: "Seaver would die here. He'd just… live here. We'd never see him again."
  • The plant for Ep 9: a tiny tag light glows on every stick. Chonksy doesn't notice. He's watching the dark.

4. INT. VAULT · THE RULE · A/B

  • Chonksy: "Don't touch anything that isn't a tape." Chumpy salutes. The salute knocks his headlamp sideways, and he goes on with the episode crooked.

5. INT. VAULT · THE PASTRY SHELF · B

  • A dusty shelf holding three faded foil packets of frosted toaster pastry ("Pop-Tide," parody name).
  • It's played as a western standoff: a lone harmonica, a close-up on Chumpy's eyes, a close-up on the pastry, and a tumbleweed of silt drifting between them.
  • Chumpy (VO, inner monologue): "It's been in here sixty years. It's fine. Nothing's fine. It's frosted."

6. INT. VAULT · THE SLIP · B

  • He pockets one. "For later." A tiny red tag light starts blinking.
  • Chonksy (distant): "You good?" Chumpy: "So good. So, so good. Never been gooder."

7. INT. VAULT · THE AISLES · A

  • Cathedral aisles of film cans. Chonksy reads the labels aloud: the names of chonk directors nobody has ever heard of. Every one of them is a person.
  • Chumpy, small: "There's so many." Chonksy: "They told us there were none."

ACT TWO (THE SWING)

8. INT. VAULT · THE PROJECTOR · A/B

  • An old projector under a tarp. Neither of them knows how to thread it, until Chumpy does it perfectly in seconds. Chonksy: "How do you know how to do that?" Chumpy: "My mom had one." Plant.
  • The lights die. The projector clicks on.

9–12. THE LONG REEF (a film by Fince Agillsan) · ~10:00

Played straight: black and white, film grain, 4:3, no cutaways to our heroes.

  • Reel 1: a young manatee cowgirl (young Old Seacow) rides a seahorse into a frontier reef town. Long, patient takes. Wind made of drifting silt.
  • Reel 2: the town wants war with the octopus settlement across the canyon. A preacher (a seal) sermonizes about "defending what's ours."
  • Reel 3: the cowgirl rides out alone and finds out the truth. The town struck first. The octopus sheriff shows her the burned grain stores.
  • Reel 4: she rides back and stands in the middle of Main Street between both armies. She says nothing. She takes off her hat. One by one, both sides lower their weapons. The final shot is her riding into a sunset of falling silt.
  • Note: this sequence is the episode's prestige moment. Write it like a real western, with dialogue in sparse, Agillsan-style lines. We'll script it in full in the script pass.

ACT THREE

13. INT. VAULT · A/B

  • The film ends. The projector ticks. Chonksy is crying: one tear, eyes open for once.
  • Chumpy: "That's Old Seacow." Chonksy: "That's… everything."

14. INT. VAULT · A/B

  • They take three reels and the sitcom reel. On his way out, Chumpy puts his paw over the pocket with the pastry. He thinks about putting it back. He doesn't.

15. INT. CHONKSY'S APARTMENT · NIGHT · A/B · ♥ heart beat

  • They watch the sitcom reel: the 70s kitchen, the laugh track, a chonk comedian working one joke about a frosted pastry for years, on a legal pad.
  • Chumpy is crying laughing. The audience sees the wrapper in his pocket before either of them does.
  • Chonksy: "He spent years on one joke." Beat. "…I want to do that."
  • Reset: Chumpy, wiping tears: "This is the funniest thing I've ever seen. I would die for this pastry." (Dramatic irony at full volume.)

TAG

16. INT. SEAVER'S APARTMENT · NIGHT

  • Seaver can't sleep. He dreams of a shelf of perfect wood he has never seen, under little spotlights. He sighs in his sleep: "Structurally… beautiful."

ON THE CURRENT

21. THE CITY WATCHING: SAME NIGHT · slot: intercut once inside the Long Reef sequence

  • The one allowed cutaway inside the swing: the whole city on the same night. Diners, apartments and store windows full of laughing chonks watching a cheap remake, while two of them, in a vault, watch the real thing in silence.
  • Played with no sound from the city, only the western's music.

SHOWRUNNER PASS · WORLD-TRUE (new scenes)

Tests: true to the world, funny, interesting. See WORLD.md.

31. INT. SEA SI BUDGET MEETING · DAY · after Scene 7

  • Fluorescent panels. Grey dolphin bureaucrats around a table, all smiling, because dolphins can't stop smiling, which is why everyone fears them. Director Gary is asleep with one eye open (dolphins sleep half a brain at a time). "Is Gary awake?" "Half."
  • Accountant: "The vault honeypot is still our most cost-effective program. Three catches in sixty years. Zero staff. The pastries are the only line item." Director: "Can we switch to a cheaper pastry?" Accountant: "We tried a fig bar in the 80s. Nobody took the fig bar." Director (gravely): "Nobody takes the fig bar."
  • On the wall, a mounted anglerfish alarm. Its lure flickers, then glows red. Accountant: "Oh." Every dolphin turns, smiling. "…We just got one." Gary's other eye opens.

COMEDY PASS · STAKES & LAUGHS

Engines from Seinfeld, Bernie Mac, Gillis, Rock, Farley and the bench. See COMEDY_PASS.md.

STAKES: prison in the Trench. CLOCK: the hatch is open for one low tide, 22 minutes, played close to real time. PRICE: the pastry is taken.

40. THE HATCH, WITH A CLOCK · Scene 2 · Farley

  • Same gag as before, now with a clock: the tide is turning, the hatch is closing on its own, and Chumpy is stuck. Chonksy: "Exhale!" Chumpy: "We've done this bit!" Chonksy: "IT WORKED!" He finishes his second exhale of his life and drops through just as the hatch seals on his tail. A tuft of his fur stays outside the vault. (In Ep 9, the agents find it.)

41. IT'S A SAMPLE · Scene 5, the pastry shelf · Larry David / Tim Robinson

  • Chumpy: "It's open. When it's open, it's a sample." Chonksy: "It's not open." Chumpy opens it. Chumpy: "It's open." Chonksy: "Put it back." Chumpy (genuinely appalled): "You can't put back a sample. That's disgusting. Who raised you?" Chonksy: "GOTTER." Chumpy: "And he'd be ashamed."
  • The clock reads 9:40 left.

42. GOOD WOOD · Scene 3, the bait shelf · Seinfeld

  • Chonksy (whispering): "Who stocks a vault with beaver chew-wood? What kind of thief are they expecting?" Seaver, over comms, very quietly, after a long pause: "…It's good wood." Chonksy: "Seaver." Seaver: "I'm just saying. Somebody cared."
